About the school

Citius-Altius-Fortius

There can be only one champion, but just as important as victory is the path leading to it.

As befits a school named after Polish Olympians, we are guided by the principle of "Citius-Altius-Fortius" (meaning "faster, higher, stronger") calling for overcoming one's own weaknesses.

We are sure that not only the winners, but also the defeated did their best to perform at their best.

SCHOOL HISTORY

Szkoła Podstawowa z Oddziałami Sportowymi nr 5 im. Polskich Olimpijczyków was established as part of the "Thousand Schools for the Thousandth Anniversary of the Polish State" campaign. On November 19, 1960, a ceremonial handover of the building in the area of Chocimska Street and Kijowska Avenue (then called Aleja Inwalidów Avenue) to the educational authorities took place.

On December 7, 1960, 1,047 students started school in 26 departments. During the following years, the school grew very quickly. A peculiar record fell on the 1964/1965 school year - at that time there were 37 departments with 1,426 students - several times more than today!

For more than 30 years, the school has cooperated with TS Wisła Kraków and WKS Wawel Kraków in organizing and running sports classes. The longest history has been with sports gymnastics, volleyball and swimming classes. In recent years, these disciplines have been joined by judo, sports dance, basketball and chess. Our wards also pursue individual sports passions are tennis, athletics, shooting, taekwondo, equestrianism, karate, among others.

MEETINGS WITH THE MASTER

As part of "Meet the Master," our students have the opportunity to learn from the best.
